Back when I used to keep an eye on the local street art scene I was always interested in people’s reaction to various works, particularly when that reaction affected the work itself. Like trying to tear off a sticker such as this one from Cloke’n'Dagga – which leaves the character almost peeking out from the remnants.

The other fun thing with some artists, especially C’n'D, was spotting the source of the image. H was quick to identify this one as Harley Quinn – H is good that way.

I think I’ve got swine flu, mixed with Man Flu. I’m either snotty, stuffed up, or both. And my boss is away so I’m playing manager too. Despite twelve hours days the jobs are piling on, backing up and everything is equally urgent. This is a fun week, I tell ya! Hence the sporadic posts here. I’m only human, even if I don’t quite feel it at the moment. Condolences in the comments please people – give generously.

This is a close-up of Easter Island Long-faces, the centre one.

There really wasn’t much street art around town to shoot, which was both disappointing and also goes some way to supporting my recent slacking-off in photo-walks. Oh well.

Anyway, I reckon this looks like a Benzo piece – something about the eyes and arms tells me it’s Benzo. Any locals please feel free to correct me.

This collection of long-faces reminded me of those cool Easter Island statues (Rapa Nui ‘moai’). Nice.

The Collaboration mural continues to evolve, this time the square-eyed face has been replaced by a rockin speaker. And for some reason the girl’s mouths have been white-washed over. I’m guessing someone defaced them. Might have to check back to see if the mouths ever return.

I did find one fresh spot on my weekend photo-drive – a vacant lot with a few long stretches of wall that had been worked on by a whole bunch of different people. Some work I recognised, some I didn’t, and the rest were shite to the point that I didn’t even bother with them.

All in all it should have been a good spot for me but after the existing buildings had been demolished, wall-braces had been installed to prevent the surrounding buildings from toppling over. And those wall-braces, or supports, really got in the way of seeing the pieces clearly! Pissed me off no end. Anyway, here are some Benzo long-faces and those are Jules’ fish between.

This was shot in daylight but darkening things and allowing the silver paint to shine through just worked so well with the scene.

Even with my wide-angle I couldn’t get the full width of Toy Soldiers in frame, but that’s no big deal, this bit just to the left of the front door used to look like this and I thought it was interesting enough to get a detail shot of anyway. Not sure bout the lack of eyes tho.

Alrighty, bout time to get Detour back on track I think, but just bear with me while I play catch-up by posting a couple/few shots at a time.

Got my ass in gear on the weekend and did a bit of a photo-drive. Was going to walk around but I got lazy, and in the end it worked out best because there wasn’t much street art to photograph and with the car I managed to cover all the usual spots – which were disappointingly barren. As a last check I took a drive by Toy Soldiers and was kinda surprised to find it had changed. Not completely, just in some parts. It’s a good rework in my opinion – definitely a good bit of Benzo and Store’s stuff in there. I can also see a “DK” in there, which is a tag I’m not instantly familiar with. Someone remind me? (Sam?)

Some more good stuff (IMHO) from the archives. The one stencil I ever did had an aerosol can as part of the image and I always thought it’d be cool to do the ol’ splash of spray paint coming out. Not a unique idea I know, but not often seen in street art.

Oh, and yesterday was post 1,300. Christ I’ve been doin this shit a while.

Once again I’ve been busy at work and just like always, the first thing to get thrown by the wayside is Detour. I guess I could skip a few days and stress myself a bit less, but I’d rather back-date things and do multiple postings at once. Starting tomorrow!

The second of Benzo’s two lightboxes. It’s strange, this character looks familiar, but I can’t find it in any previous shots I have of Benzo’s stuff. Well, besides yesterday’s.

Another of the lightboxes from the alley, this time one of Benzo’s. The character is similar to King of Swords, also by Benzo. Good stuff.

You know, after 1282 posts, it’s sometimes tricky coming up with unique names. I’ll do the [revisit] if it’s got merit, but other than that I’ll try to come up with a new title per post. But I’m fairly sure gherkin hasn’t come up previously.

The guys who did the recent lightbox installations operate under the group name Toy Soldiers. I’ve posted their stuff on here before here and here. Plus there’s a bunch of their individual work, namely Benzo and Store. But there was a third name on the signage for the lightboxes that I’m not familiar with, in name at least; Fredrock. You learn something new everyday eh?
