Snapshot
[posted 02/12/09]
The other night I ran a shot (not this one) by H, asking if it was 'Detour worthy'. She voted no, saying it was more of a snapshot that anything else, and in hindsight she was right. It was an okay photo, but nothing special per-say, and really it was more of a personal snapshot that anything else. One of those photos you like because you were there. And if you weren't, it loses that essential context. So that particular shot didn't get posted.
And then I came across this one, which for all intents and purposes is in the same boat. This is H and I, standing inside the Brihadishwara Temple Gate after having just been blessed by the Brahmin priests. We like it because it reminds us of our holiday. It's not a super-fantastic shot, it's not straight, perhaps we're not looking as stellar as we might like, but I'm kinda hoping that beyond the snapshot nature of it, that others can see it's a bit of a fun shot, put themselves in that situation and enjoy it for what it is; a snapshot. Because sometimes reality ain't all that bad, ya know?
(This isn't a slight on H's judgement over that first shot, I still think her knee-jerk response was correct, this is just a personal realisation of mine, and I'm cool with adjusting my outlook - a good partner will make you think about things a second time.)
