myStock
Every now and again I get to thinking I should give the old microstock sites a try, see if I can't make a bit of cash to pay for this ongoing photography lark. You know, just a little something to kick in and pay for the lenses I'd like, or better yet that full-frame body I'd sell my soul for. But my brief research suggests the percentage you get on each image sold is fairly pitiful. Thirty percent? Twenty percent maybe, if you're lucky? Assuming that not only do your images get accepted, but they're stuff people want to buy?
But then again, I've got some grave doubts about my material being suited for that medium – which is probably a good thing. I think I've got some damn good shots in my archives (IMHO) but even in my day to day design job I've rarely had the situation where one of my shots was the image the design needed.
So I procrastinate on the stock thing, and reassure myself that if I'm going to sell an image, it's going to be in a frame, or a book. Guess that full-frame body is just going to have to stay on the wish list a little bit longer.
Feel free to let me know if you've gone the microstock route (or not) in the comments. I'm quite curious on other people's opinions/experiences with it all.
