No.3 Scrap Line

This is the basement of The Car Plant, beneath the press lines stamping the various car parts/panels. See, not every bit of the sheet metal was needed to make a part so in true 'waste not, want not' philosophy, the scrap metal was dropped down chutes, collected along conveyor belts like this one, channelled to a central collection point where it was compressed into bails and then returned to the steel manufacturer to be once again made into sheet metal. And so on, and so on.
