Snoozin

20 Mar 2009

Haven't taken a look through the archives in a while so I thought I'd pluck this one from way back in Oct 2005. There's a critter/zoo place in the hills where one of the 'exhibits' is a field with kangaroos you can wander amongst. Most people buy a small bag of food when they pay into the zoo so that combined with the critters being on a regular feeding schedule means some – in this case the kangaroos – are so well fed they just kick back most of the time. Hey look, well fed, plus sun, plus lush grass - I challenge you to do anything else but stretch out and catch some zees.

I thought I'd mention one reason I'm posting this shot is that while kangaroos are somewhat common down here, they're still a bit foreign to natives while absolutely fascinating to tourists and non-natives alike that it's really cool for everyone to see them so close-up. I mean, it's one of those wild animals you see on TV, and you think you know, but even to a (long-term) immigrant like me, they're still fascinating to get up-close to – and believe me, the 4x zoom on my old G3 didn't put much distance between me and Mr Snoozy here.
