Playing Possum

Playing Possum

19 Oct 2008

A few months ago J and I were walking home after a few drinks and came across a rather inquisitive possum in a small tree. We had nothing to offer but he was curious enough that he let us reach out to him – though he did take the opportunity to see whether my finger was food or not.

Recently J and I have been talking about going possum hunting, but this time with some nice apples (their favourite apparently) to see if we could get up close with them again. Last night we treked around a few spots, and while it wasn't a huge success at first, we did spot a couple of possums in the distant shadows and rather high up a few trees.

Just before we gave up for the night, we finally found one up a small tree. It was probably a young one because it was terribly cautious of us, and didn't move ("playing possum") from it's spot whether we came and went, or attempted to coax it with food. So in the end I settled on a few shots, scattered a bunch of apple slices around the area and we left all the critters to their nocturnal routines.
