Say hello to my little friend

Subtitle: The world just got a little bit smaller

I've probably mentioned a few things about photography that turned me on even before I picked up a camera myself. Long exposures, particularly night-time ones. Panoramas. Time-lapse. Fisheye/fish-angle. And, macro.

Even if I do say so myself, I've managed to pull off some pretty good shots without the 'right' equipment – ie getting-by with cheap-ass close-up filters. But now I'm happy (pretty fuckin excited) to add to my collection something I'd resigned myself to only acquiring a few years down the road, a proper macro lens. Or for the photo-nerds in the audience, a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM. (Fuck yeah!)

I'll credit my aunt, L, for the inspiration on this one. Seeing the bug and flower shots from the macro lens on her 350D seriously reignited my macro interest, and with a bit of research I found Canon had a reasonably priced EF series (note, NOT EFs!) macro lens which prompted me to do a bit of window shopping on eBay... and a month and a half later I hold in my hands 619 grams of Canon love.

So for anyone who notices that this shot is a bit off in quality, rest easy – it was taken with the macro bit from my uber-cheap $50 fisheye adapter, and you'll be glad to hear I'm leaving that one in the 'fun' drawer from now on!

Now I just need to get my desktop studio up and running. Roll on the weekend!
