Fakin it
Adding the faux frame to my post the other day reminded me of another photographic thing I've been meaning to dabble in - Through The Viewfinder (TTV) photography. This is where you take a photo of what you see when you look down on the viewfinder of an old twin-lens reflex camera. You get the distorted view plus all the gritty edges and dusty smut that are usually on the viewfinder in your shot, which is a nice departure from our modern clean digital shots. Though as with any technique it's not for everyone, and it's not something to use on every shot. But it is another bit of photo-fun.
So before I go through the hassle of pouring over eBay looking for the right twin-lens relfex for me, I thought I'd take the poor-mans route and grab some of the blank TTV frames/shots people have posted in flckr and throw together something in Photoshop. Here's my effort. Mightn't be as good as the real thing but it'll do for now. Might see if I can convince my old man to track down a suitable twin-lens reflex camera for me, unless he's got a spare in his collection!
