No, I still think it's a white-faced heron. (I did mistakenly call it a white-heron!) 

The &lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Blue_Heron" target="bobthewindow" rel="nofollow"&gt;great blue heron&lt;/a&gt; has "black plumes running from just above the eye to the back of the head"   which my guy doesn't have, and it  doesn't seem to be down here in Australia.

The white-faced heron looks more like the one in my shot
