Kaleidoscope [Orange]
One of the art installations forming a part of The Festival that I really wanted to see was something called "Spherescent". I looked out for it, but never found it and assumed I'd missed it completely. But when I was grabbing my Persian Garden shot the other evening I came across this small and strange igloo-shaped white structure on the upper plaza.
I peeked through a crack in the igloo door and while mostly pitch-black inside there were some colourful lights of some sort. I tried the door and amazingly it opened a bit so I stuck my head inside and suddenly saw the silhouette of someone! Just as I was apologising for disturbing them and about to withdraw, the person invited me in. Oh, well then, okay.
I tried to describe what was inside the igloo to H when I got home, and she summarised it best "So it was like walking into a giant kaleidoscope?" Yes, yes it was. But with a very pleasant ambient soundtrack, which is what the kaleidoscope based it's ever changing colours and patterns on.
Turned out "Spherescent" had finished its two week run and had actually closed its doors to the public about 2 hours earlier [it was close to midnight], but the artist who had created it was enjoying it one last time. We chatted for a bit, and he was cool about me taking some photographs as he explained some evolutionary ideas he had for the piece. After a short while, I thanked him and went on my way. He said I was fortunate to catch it because they had to tear it all down first thing the next morning, and sure enough when I passed by the same spot on my walk into work the next day, the igloo was no more.
Guess I was in the right place at the right time.
