Towering

Towering

15 May 2007

There were two towers at the goal which were quite ornate on the outside, complete with grotesques (gargoyles). They'd been used as watch towers for a while before the gaol expanded beyond the view of the towers. After that one housed the governor's family (must have been such fun to live on the grounds!) before becoming a storage area. The other became a gallows.

There were a few informational stands detailing an escape in this one, and to add to the story they'd hung a rope made from towels - which is what you see in the shot here.
