Monster from the Deep

When we walked up to the sea lion enclosure at the zoo the other day, we expected to see the usual friendly-faced sea lions. Instead we got a bit of a shock (well, more H than I) when this great big monster from the deep bobbed it's large head above the water! Meet the Leopard Seal, he's friggin huge and snacks on penguins when he's peckish!

H isn't a fan of big sea-creatures (don't mention the whales, I did but I think I got away with it!) so she grabbed on to me as she cowered yet continued to peer in at the beast. Me, I want to like all animals, but this guy was 2-3 metres long and all I could think about was the terror of meeting face to face with him on a dive!

Afterwards we decided he looked a little prehistoric, possibly a bit like Nessie, but we know this guy ain't a legend.
