Baby Steps

I'm going to be posting various bird pics over the coming week, which I'll be putting into a little calendar for my Oma shortly. She'll be dead chuffed I'm back into a bit of bird watching, and she loved the previous bird shots she saw on here so I know she'll be thrilled with some print-outs.

I'm pretty sure this is a juvenile Purple Swamphen. I've puzzled over this a little bit, since the Dusky Moorhen and Purple Swamphen are kind-of similar (but different) birds if you know what I mean. Certainly the young are close in size and colour. - Feel free to call me on this if you're sure I've got the identification wrong, because my bird book only shows small sketches of new-born chicks not juveniles of this size.

Anyway, I think it's funny how baby animals often have large feet that look a bit too big on them. Like puppies with massive paws they don't know how to work just yet!
