Nesting
I decided the other week I'd make a bird calendar for my Oma and send it to her as a present - late kristmas, late birthday, didn't really matter. So this weekend I headed down to the river yet again, and with bird book in hand I tried to find as many different birds as I could. And finally I started to learn the names of the common birds I often see around the river/lake.
This is a Dusky Moorhen, I suspect a female, and while she is sitting on a nest her eggs had long since hatched and her 3 well-grown chicks were sitting near-by, half snoozing, half just resting while the male parent puttered around in the water.
