For the last two years, H & I have hosted the new years party so this year we were more than happy to pass the torch to a couple of our friends K & S, who recently moved back here from the Big Smoke. It was a grand little party, and H & I enjoyed the whole over-rated new years thing a lot more since we didn't have to run around playing host.

Funny part of the night was the final few minutes counting down to midnight. We were using KBP's laptop and with about two minutes to go before the year ticked over I noticed it was flashing 'low battery'. Damn, I said, wouldn't it be funny if the laptop died before we saw it hit midnight?! So I watched in trepidation as I announced the 10 second countdown, 10... 9... 8... etc ... Happy New Year! We all whooped, popped the party poppers, cheered, and at about midnight +20 seconds the laptop went blank.

It was funny, I tell ya! But perhaps you had to be there.
