Central Market
The terribly local thing to do round here on the weekend is go to the market for all your fresh food. From veggies to meat and seafood, it's suitably renowned for its quality. But only the tourists wander in sometime in the late morning, and you don't know nuthin if you come after noon.
Oh no, the die-hard locals (practically) donn their shin-pads, steel toe-caps and screaming brats in fierce preparation. Then, with granny trolley-bag in tow they march up at the crack of dawn (a sobering 7:00am) and fight their way to their favourite stall for the veggies, then barge around hunting the best deal on meat, and if it's summer and kristmas, they'll probably drop in to Angelakis Bros. to get some prawns (not shrimp) for the barbie (yes, that part is true).
The reward is bagfuls of food at an amazingly good price, enough for a family, army, or new years party without breaking the budget. But the best bit is a big breakfast at Zuma's Cafe, though H and I have been known to skip the shopping and just head straight for the brekkie!
