Puddy-Tat!

Puddy-Tat!

04 Nov 2006

I had a nice day today, I went to the zoo! It wasn't quite time for another 'critter visit', it was more that I wanted to try out my zoom lens and get some material to post here. Seeing the critters was just a nice bonus!

The open air exhibits were fine for photography, although the bright sun and dark shade was a bit of an issue at times (my 580EX got a work-out I tell ya). The real problem were all the cages with smaller animals, particularly the birds, because they had mesh with much smaller holes which caused havoc with auto-focus, and was just too difficult to blur-out in the zoom. - I ended up not even paying much attention to those poor critters. But the new lion cage had pretty big chain-link fencing so you can barely see it in this shot.

Just before I took this shot one of the two lionesses took a leak, which had the lion and the other lioness both sniffing round the puddle and then her. Each time they sniffed, they snarled up like this. No ROAR as such, just wrinkling their nose and baring their teeth. So with a bit of quick zooming and some AI Servo focussing I caught the lion in mid-snarl. - And isn't he CUTE! Look at the little puddy-tat! You can totally see the resemblance.
