Crevasse
Another from Death Valley this is the Devil's Golf Course, an extensive salt pan that used to be a shallow lake (2000-4000 years ago). But the climate warmed, the water evaporated and the dissolved minerals crystallised to form jagged salt pinnacles. Apparently over time the pinnacles can grow quite large and sharp, but the immediate vacinity surrounding the viewing point/car park has been noticably erroded by millions of exploring tourists' feet.
I ventured as far from the viewing point as time and heat tollerance would allow to find a small crack in the crust, because to me the area had a certain snowfield look to it. - This is about the closest Death Valley is going to come to a crevasse in this millenia.
