I grew up in Europe, but lived in North America for a number of years. I was happy to move across the globe, took pride in being pretty transplantable. I welcomed the change, to learn new culture, country and colloquialisms... but at the same time you can't escape your nature, and mine is stubborn.

I didn't mind that in time sidewalk flowed off the tongue more fluidly than 'path'. Parking lot and shopping cart no longer made sense as 'carpark' and 'trolley'. But Autumn was always Autumn, and I never fell to Fall.

So while the rest of the world seems to think their summer is omnipresent, I see my steaming breath in the morning air. And while the leaves on the ground did 'fall' from the trees, it'll always be Autumn to me.
