As I walked along the river the other day, I kept my eye out for any interesting or nice flowers. In the terraced flower-beds I spotted one lone flower open to the sun, it's virginal white petals and head of deep purple contrasted against the lush green foliage surrounding it. I took some shots and went on my way.

Later in the afternoon, as the sun receded I passed by the same spot, but this time the flower was in the process of closing, and I was surprised to see the strong purple colour on the underside of the petals. While the open petals had been a bright white, the underside, hidden from day-time viewing, seemed to channel the colour of the rich purple head. Just goes to show, not all beauty is on the surface.
