Outlawed

20 Mar 2006

They recently finished constructing the new law courts building here, and it's one of those buildings that you basically love or hate. I don't love it. Quite simply because before they'd even finished it, I thought it looked dated. A 2006 building, with some godawful 1970's browns and greens. And then, to top that off, there's a very strange green "tapered ellipse structure" (or so the architectural brief tells me) on one end that I'm just not sure what to make of!

Anyway, I was working on a project that potentially needed a photo of the construction, so I headed down there one weekend. Unfortunately the afternoon was particularly grey, as was my mood, so my trek was kinda doomed from the start. Sure enough, no matter what angle I tried, my lack of a wide-angle lens just frustrated me, and after a handful of failed attempts I gave up. - Then the other evening, as I was going through my archives yet again, I came across the RAW shots and thought I'd give processing them a bit of a try.

This is the tapered ellipse structure I mentioned. It's naturally that green due to it being clad in pre-weathered copper. From the street it towers above you, and this was the one part of the building I found interesting. But, I have to say, I can't look at that building without thinking the architects grand creation really just looks like Ned Kelly's infamous bucket helmet! Which is a touch ironic, since this is a place of law.
