Drip

11 Feb 2006

I like glow-sticks, or blinky things. Always been fascinated with them.

We had some thin glow-sticks left over from new years, so I decided to see if I could build a cube with them. But I didn't want to take the easy route and use 12 to make a big cube, nooooo... I thought it'd be more fun to heat and bend the glow-sticks into a square-cornered U-like shape, and with 4 of them, glue together a nice little cube! (Think about it, it'd work.) Easy.

But, long story short, when I heated and bent the first one, it squirted a bit in my face (no big deal, I know it's non-toxic stuff... how do I know? I checked the packet after I'd unintentionally bitten into one, years ago!) So with the first one leaking, I decided to abort the plan and go with option B ... play with the liquid on a surface.

Again, thru experience, I know the liquid inside is oily, so I grabbed the nearest photo frame and popped out the glass. (Ideal surface for writing in glow-stick ink!) After I'd scribbled and taken a few shots, I shook out all the liquid and photographed the blotchy, glowing pool. Then I tilted the glass this way and that to get drips, and put the glass on an angle to make it easier to photograph.

It was this drip, on an angle, that I managed to capture just before it made a leap for freedom.
