Just as with Bah Humbug it'd be wrong if I didn't do a New Years photo on New Years, so here's H&I's 2003/2004.

A couple of our friends in the group, K&S, moved to the Big Smoke mid 2003 and got a very cool apartment with a view of downtown, the Opera House, the Harbour and the Bridge. Very cool. The rest of the group half-joked about hitting their place for New Years (also K's birthday) but you know how people talk; some stuff never happens.

But as the date drew nearer, people started looking into flights, booking floor-space and spare-rooms with K&S or other friends, and critical mass took effect. This was going to happen!

H&I, being the usual procrastinators, didn't bother looking into flights til it was too late, and the prices were getting too high for comfort. We wanted to go, but money was a little short. - Then I came up with the crazy idea of driving there. Road Trip I thought, despite us not having a suitable car! - So we asked around and for the cost of three months insurance J was willing to volunteer her car. All we needed was another body to make the gas cost-effective. N hummed 'n' hawed a bit, her student money was particularly short, but at the last minute threw caution to the wind and it was all a goer!

So we set off at the crack of dawn, 5am, and headed into the rising sun. We drove as the sun rose, past road-trains, roos and radar. Then we drove some more. As the sun set, we got lost, then found, but we followed the brick road till the signs popped us into somewhat familiar territory, and H navigated us to the rendezvous point; K2's restaurant. Everyone else sat bright-eyed and bushy tailed. We were wrecked, though thankfully the car wasn't.

So for about 5 days we trundled about the city. H went to a show, and I went to my old bar, plus others. We all partied, had fun, and made the most of our time.

Come New Years night we headed to K&S's 'penthouse', or rather, their top floor apartment in a narrow 5 story building. It was hot n humid but who cared, it was a New Years with a view, and friends, to remember. (How many of us had a kitchen-view of the bridge?!) And then it got that bit better... they'd somehow convinced the landlord to open the roof-hatch and suddenly we had a private patio with an uninterrupted view of the Bridge and fireworks! Fuck, beat that for New Years! - I mean, even the walk home across the bridge was memorable.

I'll post some other, better, shots of the view, fireworks, etc. But this one had a message the others didn't. Happy New Year!
