Coffee Beans

Coffee Beans

02 Oct 2005

On the way to the mountains K mentioned a little coffee place with funny opening hours, that made him curious about their coffee. I usually have two big cups of coffee in the morning and it was on the way, so two birds, one stone and all.

Turned out this was a coffee roaster that only opened a few days a week to sell their own coffee, the rest of the time they were busy supplying beans around town. It was a small place, with a simple counter in one room and an archway leading to the roaster in the room beside. K got chatting to the guy while we had a look round. He had a few newspaper articles on the wall from the local newspapers, large and small, who had all stopped in and checked him out, with the verdict that his cofee was pretty good.

I love industrial machines, so of course I whipped out my camera and started taking some shots of the sea of fresh beans giving off their wonderful smell. The guy jumped on this and started showing me a little bit about the machine, how the coffee was roasted and turned in one part, and the little sampling scoop used for testing the roasting progress, etc. Then he suggested H take a picture of us by the roaster and that he was getting good at these poses... so he showed me where to stand, then scooped up some coffee and poured some into our hands before we looked intently at the beans and pretended to dicsuss the merits of the roast. And sure enough that shot looked like we were professional roasters caught at work.

And the coffee, yeah, that was good, nice and strong.
