I've done some event photography for a dance website here, maybe a handful of times, and this is a shot from one of those events.

The reason I got into it in the first place was because I saw too many pics on their site that were obviously taken with a camcorder and looked pretty shit! I thought I could do better, a lot better, so I emailed them some party shots I had handy, and they went for it. Cool! So while it was a free thing for them, the benefit for me was I got free tickets to the gigs I was covering, and in some cases a backstage pass which allowed me to run about the place without any hassle, get up on stage, that kind of thing. And of course I got some really cool shots from these events. But I also ran into some minor and (potentially) major problems at events, something I'll get to in another post.

Sometimes I'd take general crowd shots at an event, just incase I needed some filler pics or to give a perspective of the venue. This one started out as a crowd shot before I zoomed in on this chic. Course, bear in mind there's lights flashing all around which are impossible to predict, so it's always a gamble on whether the shot is even lit or worse, over-exposed. But this one came out perfectly. Some cool colours, and then the expression on her face, plus the movement all make up a shot that just makes me smile! Ahhh, you can almost hear the music.
